Pedro Marquez Zacarias Receives 2022 Larry S. O’Hara Fellowship
Pedro Marquez Zacaris, QBioS PhD Student
The QBioS Graduate Program is pleased to announce that PhD student Pedro Marquez Zacarias was selected for this year's Larry S. O’Hara Fellowship. This award is made to top graduate students in the college. Nominations were sought from each of the schools in the College of Sciences, and a faculty committee selected him as the recipient. The award consists of $2,500. Pedro will also be recognized at the Student Honors Celebration.
According to Pedro's advisor, Professor Will Ratcliff, "Pedro is a uniquely talented scholar. His papers are remarkable for the originality of their thought. Further, Pedro is one of the most principled, driven people I know, with a fierce desire to both uncover deep scientific truth and communicate scientific research broadly. He is a natural leader, organizing and running two major conferences, which have elevated his profile on the national stage. Through his Burroughs Wellcome journalism fellowship, he is poised to reach far larger audiences as continues his bilingual scientific journalism. Pedro is a unique student, and his incredible successes in these three domains of science make him an ideal candidate for recognition by the O'Hara Fellowship."
